BJP candidate Sanbor Shullai files papers for Shillong Lok Sabha seat

A CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG: Sanbor Shullai, BJP candidate from the Shillong Parliamentary seat, on Monday filed his nominations besides two other candidates – Romeo Phira Rani (Independent) and Justice Kharbasanti of the CPI.

Speaking to media persons at the Deputy Commissioner’s office after filing his nominations, Shullai exuded confidence and said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will come back to power. The people of the country have already reposed faith and confidence on the Prime Minister. We are confident of winning the Shillong seat. People should vote for a party that can form the government in Delhi.”

When asked for his reaction over the continued criticism of the BJP by the partners in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition despite being together, he said that ‘the regional parties cannot be divorced from the BJP’.

“Finally they would all want to work with the BJP. They will need the BJP in Delhi to get maximum funds for the State,” he said.

From the Tura Parliamentary seat, the BJP has put up businessman Rikman G Momin as its candidate. From the Shillong Parliamentary seat, the MDA has put up United Democratic Party’s Jemino Mawthoh as their common candidate, while Agatha K Sangma of the National People’s Party is the alliance’s candidate for the seat.

The other candidates in the fray from the Shillong Parliamentary seat are sitting MP and Congress nominee Vincent H Pala, Samuel Hashah (Independent) and THS Bonney (KHNAM).
