BJP forms Darrang Zila Parishad

MANGALDAI: BJP with the support from two members either of its arch-rival Congress or AIUDF finally has captured the Darrang Zilla Parishad. In the first meeting of the newly elected executive body of the highest Panchayat institution of the district held at the DC’s conference hall with Deputy Commissioner Ghanashyam Dass in the chair, Dhirendra Deka, the BJP member from the Deomornoi-Pathorighat Zila Parishad has been declared winner in the unreserved post of president through secret ballots.

The BJP candidate defeated his rival Congress candidate cum elected member from Dhula ZP constituency Abdul Rashid by a margin of two votes. Dhirendra Deka secured eight votes in comparison to six by his opponent.

On the other hand in the post of vice president reserved for general woman BJP candidate from Lakhimpur, Tengabari ZP constituency Kusum Deka became fortunate to defeat her opposition Congress candidate from Lalpool ZP seat Sonprobha Saikia by toss as both the candidates were earlier locked with seven votes each in the battle of secret ballot. It may be mentioned here that in the fourteen member elected body BJP has got the maximum of six elected members, followed by Congress with five, AIUDF two and independent one.
