BJP government cannot protect women: Oza

FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

IMPHAL, May 4 : All India Mahila Congress Committee (AIMCC) President Shoba Oza on Sunday blamed the BJP Government at the Centre for the increase of crime against women in the country.

She made this sweeping charge against the union government  during a reception programme organized for her by the Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee and Sadar Hills Mihila Congress Committee at District Council Conference Hall, Kangpokpi.

Oza alleged that the Central Government cannot protect the women and failed to book the culprits. She further said that  Prime Minister rendra Modi himself has failed to translate his election promises into concrete realities.

She pointed out that after wrapping up  many welfare schemes including MGNREGS by the central government is responsible for domestic vioence against women.

Oza appealed to the women not to be depressed  but remember that they are the strongest section of the society.

She urged the women to be alert and  cope with any eventualities  directed against them.

Mahila Congress Committee North East and in-charge Manipur Jhon Jumete sais that even the women reservation is implemented in the country. But this remains as an empty promise in the north east. Besides there is no reservation system in the autonomous district councils .

Jhon further said  that over 20 lakh women have been elected as leaders in the country.   She is not happy on learning that some states failed to implement women reservation norms even though the women take important role in developing the society. But only some good and talented women have been elected.

Local MLA, Nemcha Kipgen said that Congress party has been doing many things about the empowerment of women. She further said that  many schemes and facilities have been provided for the empowerment of women during the Congress government.  She said most of the  prominent women leaders in the country are of the  congress party.  She said that the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi were concerned about women empowerment.

“Congress Party has Gender equality”,she added.   Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President RK Ranisa  and various women leaders had participated in the programme.
