BJP will curb democratic rights if voted back to power: Jignesh Mevani

GUWAHATI: Prominent Dalit leader and MLA from Gujarat Jignesh Mevani on Saturday warned that the BJP would curb all democratic and fundamental rights of the people of the country if it is voted back to power.

Mevani was in the city to take part in National Youth Conclave held at Pragjyoti ITA Cultural Complex at Machkhowa on Saturday. The conclave was organized by Axom Nagarik Manch.

“This (BJP) anti-constitutional force…if they come back to power in 2019, you can note it down, Axom Nagarik Manch will not even be able to plan to conduct such conclave. I have witnessed his fascist attitude in Gujarat for 15 years. The saffron brigade can go to any extent to suppress rationale and sane voices in democracy,” Mevani said.

According to Mevani the post Lok Sabha 2019 elections, the people who fight for the rights of Dalits, minorities and for other voiceless, they will either be thrashed or put behind the bars with fake cases or will be killed like journalist Gauri Lankesh.

“The police charge-sheet against the accused of Gauri Lankesh’s murder has revealed that one branch of Sangh Parivar had prepared a list of 43 intellectuals to eliminate. Anyone might be shot at in our door-steps if he or she raises voice against the saffron brigade,” Jignesh alleged.

Ridiculing the ‘Chowkidar’ tag of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jignesh said that the safai-workers and chowkidars of the country have been suffering and are lacked of basic amenities.
