BJP won by maligning the image of Congress: Tarun Gogoi

JORHAT, June 7: “We could not grasp the young voters’ mind and in the process became a victim of the false propaganda launched by the BJP,” stated former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi during a felicitation programme organized at Rajiv Bhavan by the Jorhat district Congress Committee in Jorhat on Tuesday.
The programme that was presided over by former MP Deep Gogoi who felicitated and honoured the former chief minister for having registered the fourth consecutive win from Titabor by defeating BJP’s Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, and also Mariani MLA Rup Jyoti Kurmi who defeated BJP’s Dulen yak.
Addressing the assembled Congress workers, Tarun Gogoi said, “I would first like to wish a very happy Ramadan to all the followers of Islam. Today I feel immensely happy to be among our Congress workers who have all sacrificed for the party. In democracy one party wins and the other loses. Win and loss is part of politics. Our party suffered defeat because of the strategy adopted by BJP to keep maligning our party by alleging that we gave protection to suspected migrants. However, we undermined youth voters who were of a considerable number in the just concluded elections. We became a victim of false propaganda but a time will come when the people will realize that the dream of Ache Din showed to the people by the BJP will soon be shattered.”
“For true governce it is necessary to sit in the opposition too. Our duty and responsibility towards the people of the State has increased and we will soon prove that we are a constructive opposition. I remember that during the AGP reign of 1985 and 1996 we could not hold meetings in this Jorhat Rajiv Bhavan and had to secretly organize meetings at Md. Latif’s place in Jorhat. People were afraid. However, we have seen bigger tsumi than what we see today. But the roots of Congress are far better than the BJP and soon we will stage a comeback. It was Congress which gave a stable Assam. Otherwise starting from the days of Golap Borbora, the State suffered and only saw destruction. I may not like to remind once again but secret killings, LOC scam, uble to pay government employees salaries were some of the salient features of the then AGP government. Same will happen in this government too,” added Gogoi.
Earlier MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi of Mariani said, “We pledge to serve the people without even being in power. The Congress party suffered because of the presence of a mythological character like rod Muni. Congress is a party open for all and we do politics irrespective of any religion, caste and creed. The BJP on the other hand is commul and aims at dividing the people. But no matter what rod Muni-type character does, one day truth will triumph. I have persolly seen our former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi move around in a brown coloured Tata Sumo from one place to the other and with only a few party workers to regain the strength of the party and which was duly honoured by the people by allowing Tarun Gogoi to take Assam to new heights in the last 15 years.”
Also present in today’s meeting were former MLA of Jorhat, Ra Goswami, former Dergaon MLA Aroti Kachari Hazarika, former Congress district president Nobin Buragohain, Gayatri Handique, eldest daughter of former MP and Union Minsiter Bijoy Krish Handique, besides hundreds of Congress party workers.
