BJP's Smriti Irani Turns Out To Be A Giant Killer By Defeating Rahul Gandhi in Amethi

Guwahati: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Smriti Irani from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency has made a historic victory against Congress President Rahul Gandhi which has been the traditional stronghold of Gandhi's.

Smriti Irani has won the Lok Sabha seat with 49.6% while Rahul Gandhi sets with 43.89%.

Irani is set to replace Rahul Gandhi as the new MP from Amethi Lok Sabha seat as she increased her lead to over 28,000 votes. A comeback seems unlikely for Rahul as the vote counting process draws close to an end. This would be the first time in 20 years that the Congress stronghold would go to a non-Congress party. Only twice in the history of Indian elections has it happened that a political party, apart from Congress, has won the Amethi Lok Sabha seat.
