FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Feb 7: The Bharatiya Jata Yuva Morcha (BJP Youth Wing) Meghalaya alleged that the Meghalaya government has failed to comply with the provision of 3 percent job quota as per the Right of Person with Disability Act, 1995.

“The state government has failed to comply with the provision of 3 percent job quota as per the 1995 Act, which was recently increased by the parliament to 4 percent as per the  new bill ‘Right of Person with Disability Bill’ 2016 passed in the parliament,” Egenstar Kurkalang, State President, BJYM said here on Tuesday.

The BJYM leader has also questioned the state government of Meghalaya for not releasing money and entitlements meant for Person with Disability (PWD) in the state under Right to Person with Disability Act.

“We have received lots of complaints and reports from disabled person regarding this matter in which the government has kept pending since the year 2015,” he said.

He said the Chief Minister’s pension scheme for disable person has been pending since June 2016 which is supposed to be release quarterly.

In relation with the Housing scheme, he said “We had received report that most of the Block office did not comply or follow the guideline of the IAY/PMAY for allotting Housing scheme to differently-abled person.”

He alleged that recently one person was denied allotment by the BDO office at Amlarem and also in Pynyrsla Block who had instead asked for NREGS job card in order to avail the scheme.

“We had received complaint that some educatiol institutions in the State declined to give them (PWDs) admission in Schools and Colleges for furthers studies. Which ultimately force them to approach to their leaders of Disable person to get admission,” he said.

He said the BJYM will follow up this matter to pressurize the government to release all the dues to them within a short time period.
