Shillong: The bodies of three labourers trapped in a ring well at Mawdiangdiang near Shillong were retrieved late last night. The bodies were retrieved by the personnel of the Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Service along with the State Disaster Response Force at around 9.30 pm.

Confirming about the rescue operations that took hours after the incident, Superintendent of Police (city) Stephan Rynjah said that the labourers used their own traditional techniques to reach as low as 61 feet. “The first man who entered the ring hole ran out of oxygen. The other two fellow workers rushed in with the ropes to rescue the drowning man before the fatalities eventually happened”.

“We have retrieved their bodies and conducted an inquest and their bodies have been handed to their respective families”, stated Rynjah.
