Body of Tata Sumo driver recovered

GAON, May 9: The body of a youth, which was recovered in the gaon bypass road near Majpathari area on Friday morning, was later identified as Saiful Islam of Barpeta district and he was the driver of a Tata sumo.

gaon police, led by SI Dhanjit Kalita, was able to recover the Tata Sumo (AS01FC-8448) from an abandoned place near Borbheti village. According to the sources, soon after the recovery of the body of the youth, police suspected it to be murder by car lifters and stated investigating.  They recovered the car within 12 hours but the car lifters are yet to be traced.

 Police sources added that the gang of the car lifters took the vehicle on fare from Guwahati to Shillong. But they diverted the car to gaon instead of Shillong and killed Islam. Later, they left the body of Islam on the bypass road near Majpathari and took away the vehicle towards the gaon – Dhing road.
