FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Feb 2: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SKNSKBUH), a conglomeration body of traditiol heads on Thursday, decided to approach the Union Minister of State, Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju to seek his intervention over the Village Administration Bill (VAB).

Speaking to reporters at his office chamber P N Syiem CEM KHADC said, “It will be good for us (KHADC and Synjuk) to seek appointment with the Union Minister of State, Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, to brief him on the lapses with regard to sending the VAB to the MHA as there are no clear cut rules in doing so.”

Expressing concern over the delay of the Ministry of Home Affairs in sending its views to the Government and the Governor pertaining to the VAB, Syiem said, “The Home Ministry should expedite to clear the Bill to the Governor so as to implement it.”

On asked as to when they will seek an appointment, he said, “We need to implement the Bill and we will seek an appointment at the earliest.”

The meeting focused on issues as on what basis has the Office of Governor sent the Bill to the Home Ministry without any provisions cited in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
