Bongaigaon Refinery launches skill development training programme

Bongaigaon, June 23: With a view to bring consistent & sustainable livelihood to the rural unemployed youth in the vicinity of Bongaigaon refinery, particularly Chirang & Bongaigaon district of Assam, Bongaigaon Refinery under its CSR initiative has launched its skill development training programme in collaboration with National Skill Development Corporation Limited on June 19 at a function held at RCCC, BGR Township. The programme was launched by State Minister for Food & Civil Supplies Phani Bhushan Choudhury by handing over the training kits to the enrolled students in presence of GC Sikder, Chief General Manager (I/C) and others. This has been stated in a press release.

Addressing the gathering Phani Bhushan Choudhury apprised about initiatives of Government of India as well as Government of Assam towards Skill India Mission. He said there is dearth of skilled man power in India, more particularly in Assam and initiatives of the Bongaigaon Refinery in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation Limited is praiseworthy as it will create a pool of skilled manpower and provide employment opportunity to the un-employed youth of the nearby areas and across the country. He urged the trainees to dedicate their effective time in harnessing the skills for betterment & augment the livelihood for themselves and the society.

Speaking on the occasion, CGM(I/c) GC Sikder said that skills and knowledge are the driving forces of economic and social development of any country. Harnessing the skills through appropriate skill development initiatives would help to create a pool of skilled manpower to meet the developmental needs of the country, he added. He further said that following the foot print of Skill India Mission, Indian Oil has been constantly working towards development of youths through its CSR skill development initiatives. Sikder said that Bongaigain Refinery signed an MOU with NSDC for imparting skill training in 3 skill sectors like Electrical Technician, Mechanical Fitter & Welding Operator. A total of 290 students from Chirang and Bongaigaon district will be trained over a year with an estimated outlay of about Rs 50 lakh.

The function was attended by A Kalita, Chief General Manager (TS & HSE), K Pati, CGM (Project), D Gogoi, CGM (Technical) and other high officials among others, the release added.
