Goalpara, March 11: Sponsored by the border area development department, the Goalpara district administration in collaboration with the North Garo Hills district, organized a four-day border festival in various areas along the Assam-Meghlaya border beginning from Thursday.

Organized to build better relationship and better understanding among the different tribes and communities living in both sides of the border, the programme will include various sports and cultural activities in four selected venues. On March 12, the festival will begin at Khardung under Krishi development block where Deputy Commissioner of Goalpara JVN Subramanyam and North Garo Hills district deputy commissioner William Khyllep will attend.

The event will take place on March 13 at Nokmakundi , March 14 at Mogho and March 16 at Chiluk-Bakrapara.

The Assam-Meghalaya border area has recently become a safe haven for various extortionist groups, activities of whom have very often created misunderstanding among different ethnic groups. It is expected that the border festival will unite the people living in both parts of the border and help remove misunderstanding.
