Border Security Force-villagers clash; 24 sustain injury

Agartala: At least 24 persons were injured when Border Security Force personnel resorted to a lathicharge on a group of people when they tried to protect cattle smugglers. Two BSF jawans also sustained injuries.

The incident took place at Putia village under Boxnagar Police station in Sonamura sub-division on Thursday night. The BSF upon coming to know that some individuals were sending cows to the Bangladesh side cutting a portion of the border barbed wire fence, some jawans reached the spot and tried to stop the smugglers.

Here, the smugglers attacked the BSF jawans injuring two of them – Md Siddiqur Rehaman and Md Amin. Local villagers also rushed in to support the smugglers and tried to attack the BSF jawans who were few in numbers.

Meanwhile, BSF reinforcements reached the spot and resorted to a lathicharge. Local people alleged that the jawans even entered their houses and tortured men and women.

Later on, the police reached the area and took control of the situation.
