PASIGHAT, July 10: 11-year old class VI student Geyon Siram of Sisen village was feared drowned in Siang River at around 5.15 pm on Monday while cleaning his pet dog in the river at Komlighat. According to eye witness, the boy with his elder brother was cleaning their dog on the bank of river Siang. Elder brother was also almost drowned but he was saved by villager of Jarkong village but Geyon Siram could not be saved. “We were also strolling around the river bank when we saw them drowning. So immediately I put down my phone and jumped in and could pull out the elder, but could not trace the younger brother,” Toram Tarang who saved the elder brother said.” Rescue and recovery efforts for the younger brother was launched and search operation continued till 7 pm. The operation Rubber boat of Fire brigade department was also engaged in the rescue operation. Meanwhile, the state government is being urged by general public here to provide adequate supporting materials and machines to the district disaster management department so as to tackle such situation.
