Braving all odds, three from Mangaldai selected for Assam Civil Service (ACS)

MANGALDAI: Three young aspirants from Darrang district have emerged victorious in the recently declared results of the Assam Civil Service (ACS) examination conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

Rananmoy Bharadwaj of Bamunpara of Mangaldai bagged the 29th position in the merit list while his neighbour Nilakkhi Baisya of Baniapara secured the 52nd position and

Kushal Kalita of village Dogiapara claimed the 87th position. Rananmoy Bhardwaj, son of Prasanna Sarma, a Statistical Assistant in the office of the CDPO, Pub Mangaldai Block and Minati Goswami, Vice-Principal of Koupati HS School, earlier secured 13th position in the HSLC examination from Mangaldai Government HS School in 2008 and got first division in the HSSLC examination from Cotton College in 2010. He came out with flying colours in graduation in Chemistry from Ramjas College in New Delhi in 2013 securing first class first with gold medal. He completed his Masters degree in Chemistry from IIT, Bhubaneswar and completed a research project in ‘Inorganic Chemistry’ (Molecular Magnet) from IIT, Mumbai. In 2017, Rananmoy joined the Dindayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya in Karimganj district. He cleared the ACS exam in his first attempt.

On the other hand, Nilakkhi Baishya, the daughter of daily wage earner Khagen Baishya and housewife Namita Baishya of village Baniapara near Mangaldai, got first division in the HSLC examination in 2008 from Mangaldai Town Girls’ HS School and in 2010, she secured 3rd position in the HSSLC examination from Brilliant Academy, Mangaldai. She continued her journey despite acute financial crunch and again topped the list with first class first in her graduation with major in Political Science from Cotton College in 2013. She again got first class in MA in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 2015. She has also completed her M Phil and NET in New Delhi and is currently doing her Ph D. Various organizations, including Brilliant Academy and All Assam Students’ Union, had generously extended financial help to help her continue her studies.

Kushal Kalita of village Dogiyapara, a remote village of the district, is the father of a six-month old baby. Despite his struggle with poverty he cleared the ACS exam in his fourth attempt. Son of a marginal village farmer, Nidhi Ram Kalita and housewife Chaneki Kalita, Kushal, a differently-abled person with 45 per cent disability in his right leg, was compelled to struggle with poverty since his early school days. He secured first division in HSLC examination from Nagaon Janata High School in 1999 and in HSSLC examination from Duni HS School in 2001. In 2004 he completed his graduation with major in Economics from Mangaldai College and his source of education fees was the amount he earned from private tuition in Mangaldai. In 2008 he joined as an Assistant Teacher in Dahi MV School and in 2012 he completed his MA in Economics from IDOL in Guwahati.

Sujata Goswami of Basab Nagar in Mangaldai has qualified for the Assam Land and Revenue Service while Kamaljit Sarma of Assam Land and Revenue Service, currently serving as Attached Circle Officer of Mangaldai Revenue Circle, has qualified for the Assam Civil Service (ACS)
