BSF Commandant of Muslim origin renovates Shiva Temple in Meghalaya

Shillong: Amid Hindu seers, saints and right wing organisations including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and even the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pitching for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, a Muslim Border Security Force (BSF) commandant from Meghalaya sets an example of a brotherhood in the India's border town of Meghalaya by renovating a Shiva Temple.

As per a report, the BSF commandant who is a Muslim has not only renovated the Shiva temple for the Hindus, but also started to give it the form of a tourist place for people of different religion. His work is very much appreciated by the local people in the region.

Meghalaya's Dawki BSF Sima Chowki is a small town in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. Situated on the banks of Umngot River, it is one of the beautiful places to visit in Meghalaya.

It may be mentioned that the condition of the Shiva Temple worse since past many years. However, when BSK Sima Chawki, Sector Commandant SR Khan came to know about the poor condition of the Shiva temple in the bushes, Khan decided that he would restore this temple in the area.

Commandant SR Khan along with his other BSF soldiers immediately began to repair the temple and made spaces for sitting arrangements for the tourists as well. His work and abilities have been highly appreciated by the local people in the area.

Speaking to the media, BSF Commandant SR Khan said that his sole intention was create an environment where people of different religion can come here to worship in the Shiva temple.

"There is no religion in particular. God is one," said SR Khan.

He further stated that it is a matter of pride as when the BSF team first reached the temple in the hill-top, a Christian BSF female worker served them with the holy 'prashad' from the temple. Our BSF team has also set an example of brotherhood during the re-construction of the temple, he claimed.

SR Khan also urged the people to in the border region to maintain peace and tranquillity.
