BSF foils cattle smuggling bid

SHILLONG, May 5: BSF troops deployed at Omkhawa in East Khasi Hills district foiled a cattle smuggling bid and seized 15 cattle while trying to smuggle out from India to Bangladesh by the smugglers. “The crimils have not only been indulged in cattle smuggling they often sneak into Indian territory for cattle lifting from the Indian villages there has been significant increase in smuggling of cattle in the bordering area,” said a top BSF official. “These smugglers illegally enter into Indian territory and involve in smuggling of cattle after theft/purchase. Their Indian associates hand them over the cattle which are brought in the me of local consumption from cattle haats in order to earn huge profit,” the official added. He said that due to extra vigil by BSF smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh has come down more than 70 per cent, resulting in a sharp increase in the price of beef in Bangladesh.
