BSF lift Independence Day Soccer title

GUWAHATI: BSF, Jalandhar lifted Independence Day Cup soccer title defeating Mohammedan Sporting of Kolkata at Nagaon on Saturday.

BSF, who were once trailing the game, won the tie via tiebreak 5-4 after the scheduled time ended a 1-1 draw. Mohammedan took the lead in the 17th minutes through Charles. BSF got the equalizer at the 40th minutes of the match and the goal was scored by Saddam Hussain.

Thereafter both the side failed to add any goal against their name and the match had gone to the tie-break. In the shootout BSF managed to keep their nerve cool and netted in four of their shots to win the tie 5-4. Saddam Hussain later adjudged the best player of the meet while Tulya Das of OIL received the highest scorer award of the meet. Morning Star of Diphu collected fair play award.
