BTC secondary education teachers threaten stir

Kokrajhar, May 14: Around 650 additional assistant (contractual) teachers working under the scheme of 'strengthening of secondary education' have formed the All BTC Secondary Education Additional Assistant Teachers' Association to get rid of many anomalies in departmental administration and to demand the BTC government and as well as the State Education Department to regularize their jobs as they have been rendering service since 2011.

Briefing media persons at Kokrajhar Press Club on Monday, Kalicharan Basumatary, president, and secretary Fwjwndao Basumatary of the teachers' association said, "We have been giving the best teaching service in core subjects like English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science in secondary education in the BTAD since 2011. The government through a cabinet decision issued an office memorandum vide no. PMA (S) 32/2010/242 on 3.3.2016 to regularize our jobs against vacant posts. But without implementing this office memorandum, the Director of Secondary Education, BTC, arranged a BTC Special TET in many cities of Assam instead of the BTAD."

They further said that the Director of Secondary Education, BTC, published an advertisement for graduate teachers on July 5, 2017 to fill up vacancies. "Therefore, we approached the high court against the illegal process of interview since office memorandum vide no. PMA (S) 32/2010/242 is yet to be implemented. The high court served an interim order not to take any further step for the mentioned interview process. But we have come to know that many appointment letters have been given away to candidates by the Director of Secondary Education, BTC. Without proper documentation and publication of the interview, how can appointment letters be given?" they added. They threatened to launch a stir unless the illegal appointments were cancelled.
