CAB' 16 has to be scrapped: AASU to Rajnath Singh

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday contacted All Assam Students' Union (AASU) advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya over the telephone to take note of the ongoing situation of the state, this was informed by the AASU advisor, Samujjal Bhattacharya on Friday.

AASU advisor, Samujjal Bhattacharya also informed that the Union Minister Rajnath Singh had urged for a discussion over the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, to which AASU advisor clearly stated the Home Minister Singh the stand of the indigenous people of Assam on CAB' 16.

AASU advisor during his conversation with Home Minister Rajnath Singh clearly stated that the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 has to be scrapped. "Providing protection to the illegal Bangladeshi migrants and violating the norms of Assam Accord will not be tolerated," Bhattacharya told Rajnath Singh over the phone.

He also appealed the Government of India that the present crisis situation of the state will have to be solved with the implementation of the Assam Accord.

It may be mentioned that the bill will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on January 31, following which AASU along with other NEDA bodies to launch a widespread protest 'Bajraninad Programme' against the bill on January 23.

Also, taunting Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for his statement at Mangaldai on Thursday, AASU advisor, Samujjal Bhattacharya said that "distorting history is easy, but creation is tough".

He further informed that after the partition of the country in the year 1949, then Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru and Home Minister, Ballav Bhai Patel had tried to pressurize former Assam's Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi by introducing a scheme to protect the refugees who had been persecuted on religious grounds and took shelter in the state.

The scheme was vehemently opposed by the state cabinet ministers headed by Gopinath Bordoloi for the sake of the community and people of Assam, claiming this AASU advisor further appealed CM Sonowal to work in favour of the state and people, rather supporting the Centre on the CAB' 16.
