Silchar, June 6: An unnerving feeling has gripped the minds of the people. Fear and apprehension have gripped their minds. All eyes are fixed and set on June 30, the day on which the second draft list of NRC will be published. In order to remove the sense of fear from the minds of people, a series of awareness programmes are being organized at various places of this town and other interior areas of the district.

At a recently held awareness camp organized by Police Reserve, Sadar Police and Village Defense Party (VDP) at Silchar, Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Roushan, assured that people with valid documents need not fear and feel insecure. “Nothing will happen to any bonafide citizen. There are some groups of people who are trying to disrupt peace and create chaos. Do not lend ears to people who spread rumours. If names of persons having valid documents are not listed in the second draft, they will get a month’s time to add their names. Administration will always stand by such persons, said SP Rakesh Roushan.

SP Rakesh Roushan cautioned anyone resorting to misinformation through social media and other means would be subjected to stringent legal action. He advised all present not to pay any heed to such items. “From December 31, 2017 till date no untoward incident has taken place regarding this. I am hopeful that this time also peace will prevail. Police and VDP personnel will be there at every NSK,” the SP added to say. Among others present at the awareness camp included VDP advisor Ashish Halder, Subrangshu Shekhar Bhattacharjee, Atanu Bhattacharjee.
