Cache of arms, ammunition recovered in Uriamghat, Six booked under Arms Act

Sarupathar: A team of Uriamghat police and D/142 CRPF of Uriamghat during Naka checking on Friday night intercepted two Auto Rickshaws bearing registration numbers AS 09 AC 1845 and AS 09 AC 4578 and arrested six persons and seized AK 47 rifle with 29 numbers of 7.62 mm live ammunition and one AK 47 magazine from their possession.

Both the auto rickshaws were trapped at Uriamghat Forest Tiniali.

According to the source, the AK 47 rifle and 29 nos 7.62 mm live ammunition and one AK 47 magazine were being ferried across the State Border of Dimapur in Nagaland.

The arrested persons have been identified as Khoyak Konyak (19) son of Yakpa Konyak, resident of Tobu, district Mon (Nagaland), Chatom Konyak (20) son of Hablao Konyak, resident of Namsai, district Sivasagar (Assam), Kaimang Ung (20) son of Imlong Ung, resident of Shokhubi, district Tuensang (Nagaland), Aka Sumi (20) son of Aoto Sumi, resident of Zunhebato, district Tuensang (Nagaland), Askar Ali (30) the autorickshaw driver son of Sonahan Ali, resident of Kachiram Basti, district Karbi-Anglong, Tez Bahadur Chetry (35) the autorickshaw driver son of Bal Bahadur Chetry, resident of Simthong Terang, district Karbi-Anglong.

During interrogation, the arrested persons had also confessed their involvement with rebel militant outfit NSCN(K) in Nagaland. They also informed that they were sent by their head in the NSCN(K) group from Nagaland to collect Rs 80 lakh from a person at Uriamghat.

Meanwhile, all the arrested persons were taken to the Uriamghat police station in Dhansiri sub-division.

A case has been registered at Uriamghat police station Vide case no. 28/19 WS- 25(1-A)/35 of the Arms Act.
