Career exhibition cum conference held in Tura, Shillong

Shillong: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh on Friday urged the students to converse in English among themselves in schools so that they are fluent and are able to express their feelings while speaking

and build confidence to face any kind of interview in future.

Singh was speaking at the One Day Career Exhibition cum Conference for the Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools of West Garo Hills district at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Chandmary, Tura.

The programme was organised by the Guidance and Counselling Unit of the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT), Meghalaya, Shillong.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised on the importance of acquiring knowledge and information. He said that no one achieves success without hard work and knowledge.

Sharing his personal experiences from school level to the present state of his life, he said that all this has been possible since he had focused on learning with self confidence and dedication.

Singh also highlighted on the various aspects of career pathfinders which provides information for students to choose the right career for their future based on their interest. He also advised the students to aim to study in the best institutes in the state as well as in the country and try to fulfil the criteria for obtaining scholarships so as to pursue higher studies free of cost. He also explained about scholarships and other assistance available for students under various ministries.

It may be mentioned that this initiative has been taken by DERT to show the schools that this important step can be taken in their own schools to provide information to their students about career by organising similar kind of events and calling professionals from various career background.

Lecturer and Programme Coordinator, Directorate of Educational Research and Training, Meghalaya Shillong Singje Ch Marak, while delivering her keynote address said that career information is an essential aspect of career planning and is necessary to understand that the world of work is ever-changing and is becoming increasingly complex.
