AGARTALA: The Tripura Education department has filed a case against 16 STGT and STPGT teachers for obtaining jobs on the basis of fake certificates. The FIR was filed against the teachers following the government decision to ensure probity in the government services.

The BJP-IPFT government after coming to power in February last released offer of appointment to 885 STGT and 125 STPGT teachers. Immediately after the offers were issued, allegation started appearing that many of them got the jobs on the basis of fake certificates.

Altogether 132 allegations were received by the department and Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath warned that severe action will be taken against the fake certificate holders. He also assured that no action will be taken against those who would return their certificates voluntarily.

Responding to the appeal, only nine teachers returned their job offers. The department filed FIR against 16 persons against whom the corruption was established in Police investigation.

The FIR was filed under Section 466 and 471 of Indian Panel Code. If the allegations are proved they will be liable for seven years imprisonment and fine.
