Centre of Medical and Sales Representatives’ Union expresses concern at harassment

Silchar, Sept 19: Centre of Medical and Sales Representatives’ Union, northeast region, through a representation to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, has expressed their concern at the harassment by police and other non government organizations on medical and sales representatives and other workers in Mizoram in the name of NRC. Police personnel and some students’ youth organizations of Mizoram have been asking medical and sales representatives to produce their NRC documents. Medical and sales representatives are the members of CRU, legally termed as ‘sales promotion employees’. As an identity card related to NRC has not been issued yet and a good number of workers are from other states like West Bengal and Tripura. They have stated that the question of producing any document related to NRC does not arise.

In fact, police and those organizations are not been accepting their voter ID or any other ID which has been issued by government. These workers are facing harassment and they have been forcefully pushed back to Assam border. Moreover, it is pertinent to mention here that since inner line permit is in function in Mizoram, so when a person enters Mizoram with inner line permit, the question of producing NRC documents does not even arise. The Union has requested the Deputy Commissioner to take concrete steps in this matter. A copy of the representation, signed by Rajesh Sarkar, district secretary, CRU (NER), Silchar, has been addressed to the liaison officer, Mizoram House, Silchar.
