DHUBRI: The Dhubri district administration is taking various measures to attract voters in order to increase the voter turnout this time. Some of the major awareness programmes undertaken by Dhubri district election officials are quiz competition titled ‘Election Quotient Quiz’ among the students from Class XI to postgraduate level and engaging Jeevika Sakhis as Chandraprabha Baideos in villages to ensure turnout of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) for casting their votes on the polling day.

The training of 68 Chandraprabha Baideos was held recently at the Dhubri District Library Auditorium conducted by South Salmara Block Project Manager, Anisul Islam while official attached to Dhubri Circle Office, Mrigakshi Das modulated the programme and spoke on the role and duty of Chandraprabha Baideos.

Addressing the Chandraprabha Baideos, Dhubri District Information and Public Relation Officer Bikash Sarma called upon the baideos to identify the voters, particularly PwD, and motivate them to turn up on the day of polling to their polling station in the village.

“There will be separate room for PwD to cast their votes smoothly and they need not stand in the long queues with general voters. So these are some important information that you have to share with physically challenged voters,” Sarma added.

He hoped that all the Chandraprabha Baideos would discharge their duties with utmost devotion and dedication to ensure above 95 per cent voting this time. Talking to The Sentinel, official attached to Dhubri Circle Office, Mrigakshi Das informed that the Jeevika Sakhis had been symbolically renamed as Chandraprabha Baideos. “They are working under Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission and have been engaged this time to motivate and ensure the voting of PwD. Chandraprabha Baideo is the rural mascot for the general election, 2019,” Das further informed.
