Cheniyin FC retain Jeje, Karanjit

Cheni, July 7 : Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Cheniyin FC on Friday retained India forward Jeje Lalpekhlua and goalkeeper Karanjit Singh.

Jeje signed a new three-year deal while Karanjit penned a two-year extension.

“Cheniyin FC has been my home for three years now so I am delighted to extend my stay till 2020. Everybody at the club starting from owners, staff, teammates and of course the fans have been very supportive,” Jeje said.

“The club has a real family atmosphere and that has helped to get the best out of me and I know I can do even better. I am excited about the future and determined to win back the ISL trophy for Cheniyin in the coming season,” he added.

Cheniyin FC head coach John Gregory said: “I have received great feedback on both Jeje and Karanjit from our assistant coach Sabir (Pasha), owners and rest of the Indian staff. They are clearly two of the best players in their respective positions in India and securing them for the long term was a key aspect of our team building.”

Jeje, who won the ISL Emerging Player Award in 2015, is Cheniyin’s all-time second highest scorer and the league’s all-time highest Indian scorer with 13 goals in 27 starts. Karanjit has made 13 appearances for Cheniyin so far with four clean sheets. IANS
