Chief Engineer  clarifies on status of  Potin-Pangin road bridge

Itanagar: Responding to allegations by All Kamle District Students’ Union regarding pathetic condition of the Kamla suspension bridge over Kamla river, the chief engineer (Highway) on Monday clarified that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has already sanctioned for repair & maintenance of four bridges on Potin-Pangin road including the Kamla bridge at Tamen.

He informed that the works have been already awarded and the contractor had already started the work from Potin end.

“Minor maintenance & repair works viz, replacement of suspender, fixing of bolt & pins have been already started in the bridge along with the Subansiri Bailey bridge,” the CE said adding, the major repair & maintenance would be started within this month on Kamla bridge.

“Considering the dilapidated condition and longevity of bridges, especially of Kamla Bridge and Subansiri Bailey Bridge, the ministry is being requested for funding for total replacement or re-launching of entire bridge components,” he said.

The chief engineer in his clarification also informed that the DC of the district had already been apprised about the condition of the bridge and directed to restrict and regulate load and traffic movement till total repair/maintenance and re-launching/replacement of entire bridge component is done.
