Child marriage prevented at Tamulpur

Tamulpur, March 11: A child marriage was stopped at Hahkata village under Tamulpur subdivision in the district of Baksa on Friday night by Childline, Rangia with the help of Tamulpur police and Tamulpur district ABMSU.  Childline, Rangia got information about a child marriage to be solemnized at Hahakata village and they arrived at the house of the bride when the groom arrived with his villagers from village Borbila  under Tamulpur police station at about 10 pm. The activists observed the situation and found the bride to be below 18 years of age. With the help of ABMSU and local people, the marriage ceremony was stopped. The activists gave lesson about the ill-effects of child marriage and convinced both the families against the marriage. The minor girl was handed over to her family and the family gave written commitment not to get her married before she completes 18 years. Both the bride and groom were directed to go to Mushalpur, headquarter of Baksa district, and appear in front of the Child Protection Committee on March 13. Socially responsible people of the society praised Childline activists for rescuing the minor girl.
