Childline India Foundation To Spread Wings In East Siang District

Itanagar: Kolkata-based Childline India Foundation (CIF), the nodal agency of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, is all set to spread its wings in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The agency, acting as the parent organization for setting up, managing and monitoring the Childline 1098 service all over the country, is the sole body responsible for establishing the childline service in the cities and districts of the country, monitoring of service delivery and finance, training, research and documentation, creating awareness, advocacy as well as resource generation for the service, an official release informed here on Wednesday.

A coordination meeting was organized at Pasighat, the headquarters of East Siang district, by the Deputy Director of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) with CIF under the chairmanship of in-charge DC Tatdo Borang.

Earlier, the CIF senior coordinator Sabyasachi Chatterjee and programme assistant Abhishikta Bandyopadhyay in their presentation briefed about the mission and achievements of CIF and informed that the Childline 1098 service is a 24 hour free emergency phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection. “This is a project supported by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development linking State Governments, NGOs, bilateral, multilateral agencies and the corporate sector,” he said.

CIF is responsible for the establishment of childline centres across the country. The organization also functions as a national centre for awareness, advocacy and training on issues related to child protection, Chaterjee added.

Later, the duo interacted with head of departments and NGOs and held open house discussion and participated in field visit.
