Children's book fair to be held in gaon

GAON, October 12: ‘Give a book to your child instead of toy gun.’ With this motto the Puranigudam Press Club will organize a children’s book fair during the festive atmosphere of Durga Puja.

The book fair will be held from October 19 to October 23 at the Saud Bholath Barua Kshetra at Puranigudam. The book fair will be formally iugurated by Manik Chandra Barua Award winning scholar and former Head of the Department of Assamese, Gauhati University, Dr Lilawati Saikia on  October 20. The function will be graced by State Agriculture, Rural Development and Power Minister Rockybul Hussain.

On October 19 there will be a formal welcome to the readers and book lovers where hundreds of earthen lamps will be lit. The programme on October 20 will start with hoisting of flag. It will be followed by floral tribute to the martyr’s column. There will be drawing, recitation and story-telling competition. In the afternoon the souvenir titled Sewali, which has been edited by Indranil Gayan, will be released. There will also be a meeting on the topic ‘We will overcome the world by reading’. In the evening Diha am will performed by the members of Garhmur Mai Parijat.

On  October 21 a singing and recitation programme will be held. On October 22 there will be mime, single act and disguise competition held. In the evening a cultural conference will be held. The artists from well-known Beherbari outpost Sidhartha Sarma, Pritam Barua, Papari Bora, Dipjyoti Keot, Pallab praban Bora, Smrita Bora and Pallabi Phookan will take part in the conference.

In the afternoon a jourlists’ conference will be held on the subject ‘Effigy Burnt, An Inhuman Activity’. The conference will be insaugurated by Surajit Khound and conducted by Prakash Mahanta. Jourlists Parag Mani Aditya, Sunil Bora, Nip Kumar Bora, Raktav Jyoti Bora, Mukul Pathak, Ashim Kumar Bora, Partha Pratim Saikia, Debajit Talukdar, Gaurav Jyoti Neog and Pankaj Bora will attend the function.
