Children's Day event for underprivileged held

SHILLONG, Nov 14: A programme for the underprivileged children was organised by SPARK, an NGO, in collaboration with Hamro Swabhiman (Our Pride) and Margaretian Alumni Association Trust, at Lady Hydari Park here on Tuesday on the occasion of Children’s Day.

Earlier, a rally on the theme “Clean City, Green City – Our Responsibility” was flagged off by Officer In-charge of Sadar Police Station DK Prasad.

Altogether, 250 children participated in the rally from Pongkung village, Anjali slum, Mawlong village, Mawlynrei village and Rangmen Village, besides educatiol volunteers and social workers, among others.

Addressing the celebration, Chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights of Meghalaya Mee Kharkongor said, “We only celebrate Children’s Day once a year. However, we should not forget to always reach out to the children each day.”

She also urged the students to always keep their ambitions high so that they too can achieve success in life.

During the celebration there were special performances from students of St Margaret’s Higher Secondary School as well as from the underprivileged children, thereby providing them a platform to showcase their talent.
