Chutia bodies demand naming Bogibeel Bridge after Sati Sadhani Setu

GOLAGHAT: A large number of people of the Chutia community gathered at Samannakshetra in Golaghat on Saturday under the aegis of All Assam Chutia Students’ Union (AACSU) demanding that the Bogibeel Bridge should be named after Sati Sadhani Setu.

More than 3,000 people gathered and raised various slogans to demand naming the Bogibeel Bidge after Sati Sadhani Setu. The secretary of the Chutia Students’ Union, Mohen Bora said that the Chutia community was one of the indigenous communities of Assam. But this community had been deprived politically and socially since long. “Every government has ignored the problems of the community and failed to honour the forefathers of the community. The State Government should show respect to the people of the Chutia community by naming the Bogibeel Bridge as Biranga Sadhani Setu,” he said.

In the mass public convention, various organizations like Chutia Jati Sanmilan, Chutia Jati Mahila Sanmilan and Chutia Jati Yuva Sanmilan participated. Later, a mass rally was taken out through Golaghat town and a protest was staged near the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
