SARUPATHAR, July 11: Activists of the Chutia Students’ Union staged a road blockade at the ONGC colony at Sarupathar recently. According to the activists, the ONGC was carrying on its activities along the Assam- Nagaland border at Ghulapani in Uriamghat for a long time. The ONGC was taking out crude oil from the border area of Ghulapani but it had allegedly not taken up any corporate social responsibility activities for the development of the area.

The protesters demanded that ONGC should construct a guest house at Sarupathar and provide employment to the educated unemployed local youths. The Subdivisional Officer (SDO) (C) Bipul Das later visited the colony and requested the activists to withdraw the blockade and assured that he would look into the matter and that a meeting would be arranged on July 16 between the Chutia Students’ Union, ONGC officers and SDO (C) in the office of the Subdivisional Officer of Dhansiri subdivision, said Dhansiri Subdivision Chutia Students’ Union president Jayanta Bora and secretary Abhijit Saikia.
