GUWAHATI, Sept 12: The Guwahati Mati Pattakaran Sangram Samittee (GMPSS) staged a protest at Dighalipukhuripar on Wednesday in protest against alleged corruption being prevalent at the Revenue Circle Office, Guwahati.

Talking to The Sentinel, GMPSS president Prabin Jyoti Goswami alleged that the Circle offices located across the State are turning into a centre of corruption. “Harassment of visitors on various occasions in the Revenue Circle Offices is a common practice. No employees in the Circle Offices move a file without bribe,” Goswami said.

Goswami informed The Sentinel that more than thousand of applications were submitted to the Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner’s office earlier for allotment of land pattas to the landless indigenous people. “The DC referred those applications to the office of the Revenue Circle for examination. The Dc also issued necessary directives from time to time to look into the matter. However, none of the applications were examined for not offering bribe,” Goswami alleged.

Goswami further alleged that one need to visit frequently to the Circle Office for registration (Namjari), share (batowari) and demarcation (Simanirdharan). “However, no one can move a file for these purposes without bribe,” Goswami said.

After submitting a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner through the hand of the Circle Officer on Wednesday, Goswami demanded to make Circle Offices corruption free. He also stressed to provide land pattas to the landless indigenous people.

The protest was also attended by the Bhumi Adhikar Sangram Samittee, Assam.
