From our Correspondent

Silchar, May 27: A number of people are facing a lot of problems regarding the grant of citizenship. Jatindra Chandra Das, son of late Gajendra Das of Selimabad village under Katigorah police station, Prab Das of Jarailtola under Dholai police station, Usman Ali of Lathigram under Udharbond police station and Gobinda Das of Dholcherra, have been subject to untold sorrows and sufferings. They have been asked repeatedly to prove their citizenship. The gross negligence on the part of the Border police has created such precarious situation for them. Without examining their documents thoroughly, they have been made to face problems with regards to their citizenship.

Citizens’ Rights Preservation Committee (CRPC), Assam, has demanded that such negligence on the part of the police personnel should be stopped and they should examine the documents provided so that nobody is framed. Talking to The Sentinel, Sadhan Purkayastha of CRPC said, “This is a case of utter negligence on the part of the police. Under the provisions of the Article 11 of the Constitution of India, the government is in a position to grant citizenship to any individuals without any hassle. CRPC vehemently condemns such treatment which is being meted out to these innocent persons.”

CRPC has stated in a press-release that Jatindra Chandra Das is having all valid documents, his father’s me is also in the citizenship character and 1966 voter list, and is having all the documents related to refugee certification. They have raised a vital question that why an individual has to go through such process repeatedly and prove his or her citizenship.
