Citizenship Amendment Act must be annulled: AASU

Dibrugarh, March 11: The members of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) took out a satyagraha rally which was taken part by the public in large numbers.

Participating in the satyagraha procession, the district committee  members of Muttock Yuba Chattra Sanmilan (MYCS), AATASU, Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad ( TAYP),  Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Takam Mishing Kebang Parishad and Dibrugarh district former Student Union Coordition Committee, Chutiya Chatra Xantha, Ahom Jatiya Gamancha, Asom Chah Jajati Chatra Santha, Konch Rajbangshi Chatra Xantha, Asom Suraksha Se, Akhil  Asom Bhojpur Yuba Parishad, Bihattar Borpathar Yuba  Samaj, Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Yuba Mancha, All Assam Bojpuri Parishad, Gorkha Students’ Union, Asom Anusuchita Jati Yuba Chatra Xantha, Asom Yuba Chatra Sanmillan, Asomiya Mohila Mancha Bihattar Marwari Yuba Mancha, Akhil Hindustani Yuba Parishad, All Assam Muslim Yuba Parishad, All Assam Jatiya Yuba Parishad and various other organizations shouted slogans against the illegal Bangladeshis.

The satyagraha procession spearheaded by AASU seems to have blown the bell for the second phase of Assam Agitation. The procession, which started off with beating of drums and blowing of conches from Dibrujan playground, was led by the general secretary of AASU, Lurinjyoti Gogoi ; organizing secretary Anil Gogoi ; central committee members  Sanjeev Changmai and  Uddipto Jyoti Gogoi ; district president, Likhon Baruah and general secretary, Sankarjyoti Baruah.

Former AASU leaders Paragjyoti Baruah, Sunil Rajkonwar and others were also a part of the satyagraha procession.  During the procession, the participants of the rally shouted various slogans.

Taking part in the protest movement, AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi underlined that any act that undermined the significance of the Assam Accord, under no circumstances would be forgiven. He also reiterated that Citizenship Amendment Act had to be annulled and there was no secondary option to it.

Further, the AASU general secretary demanded that Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal must put an immediate ban on Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbhastu Samanway Samiti (NBBUSS) and the accused persons must be arrested at the earliest. Gogoi said that CM Sonowal must suspend the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Dhemaji district due to their failure to take any legal action against the perpetrators of the Silapathar attack.
