City camp registers 170 construction workers

GUWAHATI, April 3: The office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Kamrup (M), in collaboration with the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and AREIDA, organized an on-the-spot registration camp for construction workers on Tuesday at Bhetapara, Guwahati under Building and Other Construction Workers (RE & CS) Act. Around 170 construction workers were registered at the camp.

The registered constriction workers shall be eligible for various welfare benefits like medical assistance, disability pension, general pension, family pension, critical disease assistance, death benefits, marriage assistance, maternity benefits, education assistance for beneficiaries’ two children, insurance coverage, house building advance, tools purchasing loan etc., to be provided by the Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board. Assistant Labour Commissioner Ajanta Sarania appealed to all construction workers to register themselves in the labour offices of their home districts or work distincts and requested all contractors/ builders and employers to engage only registered workers.  A health check-up camp was also organized for workers and bank accounts were also opened for construction workers on the spot.
