City Pink Buses Started In Nagaland Especially for the Female Commuters

Keeping the poor transportation facilities available in the state, Nagaland has finally come out with something very friendly and helpful for its people, especially the female commuters. Named as the City Pink Buses, these buses will run between important locations of the state and will carry the female commuters, making sure that none of the women travellers, whether she is a regular commuter or an occasional passenger, gets best and timely transportation facilities.

The City Pink Buses particularly is a welfare programme for women which has started its services in Dimapur and Kohima from September 16. The pink buses will run from Dimapur railway station to Chümoukedima.

Flagging off the bus services at NST Dimapur Station P Paiwang Konyak, Nagaland Minister for Transport & Civil Aviation, Railways & Land Resources said that earlier on as well bus services were procured through the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) buses but were later left abandoned at the Transport department. The good part is that five such busses are now refurbished and are brought back on the road. The transport minister also expressed his hope that other abandoned busses will also be able to see the roads in the coming days. Notably, there were 14 such buses that were lying useless.

Konyak stated, “We hope it will not be just an introduction but will go a long way.”

For the time being Dimapur and Kohima both the places are being provided with two pink buses and the minister further says that such an act of introducing buses only for female passengers is a completely new concept in the North East. He also added that though for the time being the bus driver and conductor will be men but will soon invite women folks to assist the buses.

The fares for the bus service will range from Rs. 10 to 25 and there will be total 22 bus stoppages in Dimapur to Chümoukedima bus.
