City to host National Ranking Table Tennis Championship from Sept 25

GUWAHATI: Assam Table Tennis Association (ATTA) will host the National Ranking Table Tennis Championship in Guwahati from September 25. The competition would be held at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor stadium at the RG Baruah Sports complex.

Disclosing the news in a media briefing the secretary of the ATTA Tridib Duvarah said, “Most of the top stars of the country including Commonwealth Games and Asian Games medals winner Monika Batra, Amalraj, Mouma Das are expected to participate in the meet”

The competition would be held from Sub junior to Senior categories and there would be altogether 10 individual events. 28 states and 13 Institutions team will take part in the 6-day championship which carries prize money worth Rs 7,46,600.

Duvarah added: “During the competition two crucial meeting of Table Tennis Federation of India would also be held in Guwahati. One of them is executive committee meeting and the other one is Special AGM. The date of the Special AGM is September 29.

The media briefing was also attended by two vice presidents of ATTA Arujyoti Barua and Munin Nobis. In a brief speech Arunjyoti said: “Several top players of the country will participate in this meet and it would definitely make the tournament highly competitive. I feel our young players would learn a lot of new things by watching top international performers of the country.”

Meanwhile commenting on Assam team in the forthcoming championship Duvarah said, “Each state or institutions can put only eight players in the tournament. However we managed to get special permission from TTFI and 16 players from the state will participate in each category.”
