Civil servant accused of rape on the run for five days

AGARTALA, July 2: A senior Civil Service Officer of the Tripura administration Pan Ahamed is on the run even after five days of being accused in a rape case in his house at Joygar area close to Akhaura check post here.

Uble to detect his where about the police has published advertisement in newspapers with an apple to the people to inform if anybody has any clue about his location.

A case was filed in the Agartala Women Police Station on June 27 by a lady alleging that the Deputy Director of the Sports department Pan Ahamed has raped her when she went to his house in search of a flat on rent.

Ahamed earlier serves as SDM of Gandachera and Somura.

She said on the previous day she went to his house but his father, a retired civil service officer, said the matter is to be discussed with his son who is not at home at that time.  The 26-year-old mother of two children left her phone number with a request to inform her when he will be available.

Accordingly she went to Pan’s house receiving a phone call from him on the next day. He took her in the first floor of the building, entered in a room and closed the door.

The lady said she tried her best to prevent Pan and due to scuffle he received some injury too and that can be best proof for his crime. But that cannot be testified as police is uble to arrest him.

Superintendent of Police Abhijit Saptarshi said they have searched all possible places but could not detect him. Some section of the police also suspects that he might have fled to Bangladesh to evade arrest.

Meanwhile, it became a major political issue in the state as all the opposition parties— BJP, Trimool Congress and Congress are demonstrating demanding his immediate arrest.

They are alleging that police is reluctant to arrest him as he is a close confident of the ruling party. Sushanta Choudhury, a leader of the TMC said Pan was a front ranking activist of the CPI (M) before joining the service and was the secretary of its youth wing the DYFI.
