Cleaning of drains by Dibrugarh Municipal Board in Dibrugarh town evokes mixed response

Dibrugarh: As part of the bid of the district administration to prevent the drains from getting clogged in the monsoons and the resultant artificial floods in the town, different stretches of the Dibrugarh Town Protection Drain (DTPD) were cleaned recently.

On Tuesday, the Dibrugarh Municipal Board got the stretch near Dibrugarh Shani Mandir cleaned, besides cleaning the blocked sections of the second primary drain of the town at PN Road, Bashbari and Santipara. Similar efforts were also undertaken to clean the drain opposite Shankardev Hospital alongside the Mancotta Road. Earlier, the Dibrugarh Water Resources Department had cleaned a 70-metre long stretch of DTPD at Paltan Bazaar. However, these efforts are evoking mixed responses from the public.

While the public, in general, is heaving a sigh of relief, many among them are of the view that such actions were coming in late with the town already under the influence of long spells of showers. Moreover, the cleaning of the drain running along the Mancotta Road near Shankardev Hospital was long overdue. Despite its location being at a stone’s throw from the Chowkidinghee Field and its proximity to the DC office, the public had to face many inconveniences for long with the drain water often coming out in the open on the road near Hotel Monalisa.
