CM broke his promise: Garo council

Goalpara, March 13: The Garo tiol Council (GNC), Assam State Zone, has expressed its dissatisfaction over the formation of a development council for the Garo people. According to the content of a press release circulated on Friday, the GNC has resented that Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has broken his earlier promise - made in last year’s budget – that the Garo people will be given an autonomous council. “The CM has backtracked from his last budget’s promise presented on August 11, 2014 in which he mentioned that for the socio-economic development of the Garo people, the government was considering creation of a Garo Autonomous Council,” stated the press release signed by Thengsil Sangma, state general secretary, GNC. Meanwhile, the GNC has also claimed that its state president Arbithson Sangma is in no way connected with any extremist group as alleged by some quarters.
