CM fires salvo at Centre

Shillong, July 17: Close on the heels of the central Congress leadership’s tirade against the rendra Modi-led tiol Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Monday accused the BJP-led government of toeing the commul ideological line of the Rashtriya Swayamvek Sangh (RSS).
Talking to newsmen soon after casting his vote in the presidential elections here on Monday, Sangma echoed the views of the Congress party against the Modi government. He said “The Central Government is not pursuing the agenda of a political party, but the agenda of RSS,” even as he alleged that there is a strong move by the government to enforce the commul agenda of its frontal organization.
The Chief Minister referred to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act that restricts sale of cattle for slaughter, which he termed as a “reflection” of the RSS agenda. “Prime Minister rendra Modi is bound by the diktat of RSS and one such example of RSS interference was the linking of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act to sale of cattle and location of cattle markets in the country,” Sangma stated.
Stating that the BJP aims to “destroy the fabric of democracy”, Sangma added that the party is adopting an indirect approach to make its presence felt in Meghalaya through the RSS.
Terming the RSS as a “non-Government” actor, Sangma said that they mage to pull the strings of governce and impose its agenda in the country, “which is unconstitutiol”.
Sangma also rebuked the RSS’s “unconstitutiol” method, stating that its ideology and agenda are reflected in various rules and policies of the Central Government ever since the BJP came to power. ”They are imposing their agenda in framing rules and taking control of various authorities in different ministries,” he alleged.
Calling upon the people to think and act wisely, the Chief Minister asserted that the people should be able to read between the lines and see the BJP for what it truly represents. “The citizens of Meghalaya have to come together and insulate the society, community and vulnerable groups from the ugly designs of the RSS,” he added.
