GUWAHATI, May 31: “Power Department plays the most important role in bringing light to the lives of the people at all levels of the society. The department must take up the responsibility to light up the nation through science and technology. The employees of the department have the capability to take the society towards rapid development and the department must use that capability to the optimum for deriving rich dividends,” said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while inaugurating the second 2x40 MVA, 132/33 kV Gas Insulated Substation of Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd (AEGCL) at Kamakhya today.

Urging the staffs and officials of the Power Department to ensure power connection to each family of the state, the chief minister said that the state government has taken up many schemes for developing the power sector in Assam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated schemes to provide power connection to each and every family in the country and successful implementation of these schemes has contributed immensely to the rapid development of the country, Sonowal said.

Informing that the state government is working towards increased power production through hydro, thermal and gas based plants, Sonowal said that both processes of power generation and transmission must be streamlined in the state for plugging the loopholes. The power department must work with renewed vigour for supplementing the state government’s efforts to provide employment opportunities to the youth of the state, he said.
