CM reviews progress of Industries and Commerce Department

Guwahati, April 3: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi reviewed the progress of the Department of Industries and Commerce at a meeting with senior officials at his official residence yesterday evening.

Chief Minister Gogoi asked the department to gear up its activities in a big way and initiate steps to uplift the economy of the state through the promotion of Micro, Small and Medium enterprises. He also asked the Additiol Chief Secretary to take steps to infuse life in the weak industries and contribute to the economy of the state.

He also asked the Department to utilize the land productively and whatever land was lying unutilised should be used to set up small scale industries for the uplift of local entrepreneurs. Moreover, instruction was also given to develop infrastructure in the industrial estates in public-private partnership mode and assured all government help to achieve this end. Till date Assam has 41,410 number of micro, small and medium enterprises and 163 numbers of large industrial units.

Gogoi also asked the Additiol Chief Secretary to coordite with all the line departments to forge a synergy to expedite the process of setting up of small industrial units in the state and generate employment avenues. Gogoi further asked the department to provide land to the willing entrepreneurs in the adjoining areas of Guwahati to set up downstream plastic industries to use the raw materials of BCPL. He also asked the Additiol Chief Secretary to take necessary steps to procure wax from the NRL to provide rightful vocations to the women in candle making. Moreover, the department has been asked to remove all bottlenecks to set up industrial units in Assam.

Additiol Chief Secretary, Industries and Commerce Ram Tirath Jindal, Additiol Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister MGVK Bhanu, Commissioner, Industries and Commerce  Swapnil Baruah along with other top officials of the department were present at the meeting.
