CM Sarbananda Sonowal Urges Faggan Singh Kulaste To Set Up A Steel Plant

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday urged Union Minister of State for Steel Faggan Singh Kulaste to set up a steel plant in Assam.

The request came when Kulaste called on Sonowal at Brahmaputra State Guest House here on Saturday as the duo talked at length on the possibilities of steel industry in Assam.

Sarbananda Sonowal said that considering the ever-increasing requirement of steel in North East, a steel plant should be set up in Assam with Central government support. Sonowal said the entire region uses more than six lakh metric tonne of steel from the Steel Authority of India every year. He said that the now defunct steel plant at a sprawling 100 acre land at Dogaon near Baihata Chariali in Kamrup district could be revived.

The Union Minister assured Sonowal that he would positively look into setting up of a steel plant in Assam along with reviving the existing one. State Minister for Industries and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary was present in the meeting.
