Coal traders' association seeks SC intervention

NONGSTOIN, Oct 4: The Hima Nongstoin Land Owner Coal Trader and Producer Association (HNLOCT&PA), on Tuesday held a public meeting at Maweit in West Khasi Hills, to discuss the issue that the Association stands. The meeting was attended by Lyngdoh of Hima Nongstoin Macmillan Byrsat, A.L. Syiem Secretary HNLOCT&PA, R.S. Sohlang headman Markasa village, M.S. Ryntong headman Maweit village and all the members of HNLOCT&PA. Addressing the public meeting A.L Syiem said that the ground of the civil appeal filed by the Association to the Supreme Court is that to prevailing an existing land tenure system are privately owner and the prevailing customary land tenure system of the Khasi Pr and Garo community. In regards to the interim order passed by the Supreme Court directed to allowed transportation of the already extracted coal, Syiem said that “We should not be happy with the interim order passed by the Supreme Court but we should be happy that the Supreme Court has identified the owner”.
