Cocaine Seized and Eight Arrested in Sarupathar

SARUPATHAR: A team of Barpathar police station, Border Magistrate Pranjit Kumar Deb, AASU activists and a media team of Dhansiri subdivision on Sunday raided a house and seized a large quantity of cocaine. Eight persons were arrested. Those arrested have been identified as Sujit Mazumdar (31), son of Kalipad Mazumdar, resident of no.1 Singimari Barpathar, Hassan Ali (21), son of Motolif Ali, resident of Barpathar ward no.3, Mainul Ali (46), son of Manu Ali, Nasin Ali (34), son of Latif Ali, resident of Digholipathar gaon, Saju Hussian (23), son of Anuar Hussain, Kishan Deb (20), son of Binoy Deb, Rajesh Biswas (24), son of Chandan Biswas, resident of Kalibari Barpathar, Rahimjan Begum (38), wife of Rahimuddun Ahmed, resident of ward no.3 Barpathar, and Hamid Ali alias Dudul Ali (38), son of Nasib Ali, resident of ward no.3 Barpathar.

According to police sources, the main accused was Hamid Ali (Dudul), the drug trafficker who used to supply the contraband to the other arrested persons. Hamid managed to escape from police custody at Barpathar police station and police are looking for him.

Meanwhile, AASU activists protested in front of the gate of Barpathar police station on Wednesday and demanded immediate suspension of officer-in-charge Bholaram Bora. They alleged that OC Bholaram Bora helped Hamid Ali escape from police custody.
