Concern over bad road condition in Dawki

Shillong, Jan 24:  Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju today expressed concern over the bad road condition leading to Dawki in West Jaintia Hills district along the India-Bangladesh border. Rijiju was in Dawki to lay the foundation stone of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Indo-Bangladesh Border in Dawki, the first ever ICP in the State of Meghalaya. “I am going to review the condition of the road.” Rijiju also said that he will improve the mobile connectivity. The minister also took note of the poor telecommunication network near the border area and assured the locals that the matter will be taken up with authorities concern for its redressal. “I hope that when we come the next time to iugurate the ICP all infrastructures including the road will be in place,” Rijiju said.  It may be mentioned that the Dhaka- Guwahati bus uses the Dawki-Shillong route. However, there are concerns the rrow old iron bridge at Dawki and also the sky climb up the hills from Dawki onwards where the road is under construction.
